Eddie Pola and George Wyle in 1963 penned that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas is historically and traditionally a day set apart by Christians worldwide to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
The Jewish gospel writer, St. Mathew writes, “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” which means “God with us” (Matthew 1:23—NIV).
Christmas is the most holy, gracious and loving season of the year because of the wonder and miraculous birth of Jesus Christ who is the Prince of Peace, Kings of Kings, Lord of Lords and most importantly, God Himself came down to dwell among His creatures.
The miraculous and virgin birth of Jesus is a wonder and remains the greatest event in all of human history. God entered into this world as a vulnerable child to show us the way to love and to live. He came to free us from the power of Satan, slavery of sin, and bondage of sickness. Jesus Christ, the greatest political emancipator and freedom fighter of all time came to free his people from slavery, bondage, oppression and captivity. He came to empower people to fulfill their God-given life and potential.
In the gospel of Luke, Jesus Himself announced his mission statement and purpose for his birth. He said, “The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18-19).
Jesus was born and anointed by God for sole purpose to proclaim radical economic, social and political change. Jesus was chosen and sent to free the captives, open the eyes and minds of ignorant people and to free the oppressed, marginalized and enslaved. He came to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor – to give people justice, liberty, prosperity and blessing (Luke 4:19).
Jesus came to empower people to live life to their fullest potential. That is what true and pure leadership is about. He is the wisest and greatest leader of all time.
Jesus affected human society like no other. This incomparable Jesus Christ is the reason for this wonderful time of the year.
The Apostle John writes, “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written (John 21:25).
Joseph Ernest Renan, a 19th century French philosopher and historian once wrote, “Let the greatest surprises of the future come, but never has there arisen, nor never shall there arise another like Jesus Christ.”
The Bible teacher and Pastor, Dr. John MacArthur, in his book: Truth for Today, surmised the majesty and grandeur of Jesus Christ when he wrote,
“Jesus stands incomparable amongst the world’s greatest religious, philosophical and moral leaders. Socrates taught forty years, Plato fifty, Aristotle forty but Jesus’ public ministry lasted less than three years, yet the influence of his life far outweighs the combined 130 years of the three greatest philosophers of all antiquity.
“Jesus never painted a picture, yet some of the finest paintings of Raphael, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and many other artists found in him their inspiration.
“Jesus did not write any poetry, but Dante, Milton and other world’s greatest poets were inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
“Jesus did not write any music, yet Hayden, Handel, Beethoven, Bach, Mendelssohn, and myriad of others reached the highest perfection of melody in compositions about him.”
Jesus did not officially write any book, yet millions of books have been written about his life and teachings.
Jesus Christ is without debate, the greatest religious leader, political strategist, social change and moral crusader of all time. Wishing you and your family a joyous Christmas and blessed 2019!
